The British Chihuahua Club Judges List

The Club maintains a list of approved persons qualified to judge Long and Smoothcoat Chi­hua­huas at various levels, which is updated annually after approval by the Members and Committee at our Annual General Meeting, usually held in March each year.  For a description of the criteria for being eligible for inclusion on each section of the list, see below.

New applicants welcome
The British Chihuahua Club welcomes applications at any time from experienced or aspirant judges wishing to be considered for inclusion on one of our lists. The lists are updated annually, as mentioned above, and to be included on next year's list your application would have to be received by 16th December to allow time for the Committee to review it before submitting it for approval to the Club AGM the following March.

For a description and criteria for the various lists, see below. For an application form please write to the Club at the above address, enclosing an A4 SAE and clearly indicating for which list you wish to be considered (A3, B or C, and Long or Smoothcoat).

Criteria for Inclusion on Judges List
*indicates requirement is Kennel Club policy

A1 List
This list includes judges who, having been approved by the Kennel Club to do so, have awarded Challenge Certificates in Long or Smoothcoat Chihuahuas, and have the support of the British Chihuahua Club.

A2 List (No-one listed)
This list includes judges who have met the requirements of the Kennel Club to award CCs in Long or Smoothcoat Chihuahuas, but have not yet done so, and have the support of the British Chihuahua Club.

A3 List
This list includes experienced judges who would have the support of the British Chihuahua Club to award CCs but have not yet been approved by the Kennel Club to do so.

To be considered for inclusion on this list you should:

• have a minimum of 7 years' judging experience in the breed;
• have judged a minimum of 10 Open Shows and/or BCC breed club supported entry shows, with an adequate geographical spread;
• have judged a minimum of 40 classes for Longcoats or 30 classes for Smoothcoats;
• have judged 125 Longcoats or 100 Smoothcoats;
• have attended a seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer, and passed the relevant examination on Kennel Club Regulations and Judging Procedures*;
• have attended a seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer on Conformation and Movement*;
• have passed a Conformation and Movement 'Hands-on Assessment' conducted by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer*;
• have attended at least one breed-specific seminar run in accordance with the relevant Kennel Club Code of Best Practice, and passed an examination and/or assessment where applicable*;
• have bred and/or owned a minimum of 3 dogs (for non-specialists, of any breed) when they obtained their first entry in the Kennel Club Stud Book*; and
• have stewarded at 12 shows*

B List
This list includes judges who have the support of the British Chihuahua Club to judge Long or Smoothcoat Chihuahuas at Open Shows, or at Championship Shows with no CC for the breed.

To be considered for inclusiion you should:

• have a minimum of 3 years' experience judging the breed at open shows;
• have judged this breed at 6 Open Shows;
• have judged a minimum of 18 classes of this breed;
• have judged 50 dogs - actually present and not just entered;
• for non-specialists, have attended at least one breed specific judging seminar and passed an assessment where applicable.

C List
This list includes aspirant judges looking for their first appointment, and those without sufficient judging experience to qualify for the B list.

To be considered, you should have shown an interest in the breed and have had a minimum of two years' experience of owning and exhibiting in this breed, or for non-specialists, a minimum of three years' experience of owning and exhibiting in any breed.
